How To Bid

Sale format

This sale is conducted as a sealed-bid online auction. Buyers submit their best bid per lot privately via the bid form on each lot page. Bids are not visible to other buyers. An interested bidder can bid more than once on any given lot during the course of the auction.

At the closing time, the highest valid bid received for each lot, above the minimum starting bid, will be considered for acceptance at the vendor’s discretion.

Steps to place a bid

  1. Browse the Auction Catalogue

Go to the Auction Catalogue page to see all lots in the sale.

  2. Open the lot you’re interested in

Each lot page includes stallion details, dose definition (straws per dose), storage information and any specific notes.

  3. Read the Terms of Sale

Before bidding, please make sure you have read and understood the Terms of Sale.

  4. Complete the bid form on the lot page

For each lot you wish to bid on, fill in the bid form with:

    • Your full name

    • Email address

    • Mobile phone number

    • Your bid in AUD for that specific lot

    • Confirmation that you have read and accept the Terms of Sale

  5. Privacy / data use
Bidder contact details will be used only for the administration of this sale and related follow-up and will not be shared with third parties except as required by law.

  6. Submit your bid

Submit the form. You should receive a confirmation message that your sealed bid has been recorded. If you do not receive any confirmation, please contact us promptly so we can check that your bid has come through.

You may submit a revised bid on the same lot before the closing time. If you do, your most recent bid received (before the closing time) will stand.

Minimum bids and increments

  • Each lot has a clearly stated starting minimum bid. Bids below the minimum will not be considered.

  • As a guide, please increase your bids in minimum increments of $100.

The vendor may, at their discretion, negotiate with under-bidders on lots that do not reach their reserve.

Closing time

  • Bidding closes on Sunday 23 November 2025 at 9:00 pm AEDT.

  • For any lot which receives a bid within 5 minutes of the auction closing time, the auction for that lot only will continue for another 5 minutes. This 5-minute extension will continue to be applied to that lot each time a new bid is received within the final 5 minutes.

  • The final time at which no further bids are received during a 5-minute extension will be taken as the closing time for that lot.

  • The time stamp recorded by our system will be taken as final. Bids received after the closing time will not be considered.

  • If necessary (for example, in the event of technical issues), the vendors may extend the closing time for selected lots by a short period. Any extension will be clearly noted on the relevant lot page.

Multiple lots and multiple doses

  • You are welcome to bid on as many lots as you wish as many times as you wish.

  • Where there are multiple lots of semen from the same stallion, you may bid on one, several or all of those lots.

  • Where practicable, successful bidders on an earlier lot of a particular stallion may be offered the option to purchase additional unsold lots of the same stallion at the same per-dose price as their winning bid. This will be at the vendors’ discretion and subject to the level of competing interest.

Lots sold per straw

Some lots in this sale (currently Lots 6A, 7, 8, 10A and 13) are offered on a price-per-straw basis rather than as a single dose or whole lot.

For these lots:

  • Your bid is for a price per straw.

  • The bid form will ask you to select the number of straws you wish to purchase at that price, up to the maximum number of straws per bidder shown on the lot page and in the bid form.

  • If your bid is successful, your purchase price will be your bid per straw multiplied by the number of straws allocated to you.

  • Where demand exceeds the number of straws available, straws will be allocated to the highest per-straw bids first, up to each bidder’s requested quantity (subject to the maximum per bidder), until all straws in that lot are allocated.

Notification and payment

  • Successful bidders will be notified by email and/or SMS as soon as possible after the close of the sale.

  • All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD) and include GST.

  • Payment is by bank transfer only. Bank details will be provided on your invoice.

  • Full payment is required within one business day of notification of a successful bid, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • Once cleared funds have been received, the vendors will notify Gene Movers, 8 Station Street, Maddingley, Victoria 3340 of the change of ownership. We can arrange transport and insurance of the semen.
